Dose Software

The CREME96 software is not recommended for calculating total dose due to trapped particles because it does not include trapped electrons. (See limitations.) Better software for calculating trapped particle doses are:

APEXRAD is a new dose program, specifically recommended for low-altitude orbits (<2500 km) at solar minimum.

UNIRAD: This software package incorporates the ESA versions of AP8MAX/MIN (for protons) and AE8MAX/MIN (for electrons) models and the SHIELDOSE transport package. The software package returns dose calculations for arbitrary orbits.

  • For more information on UNIRAD see: D. Heynderickx, et al., "The Trapped Radiation Software Package UNIRAD", in Geophysical Monograph 97: Radiation Belts: Models and Standards, pp. 305-309, (Washington: American Geophysical Union, 1996).
  • The UNIRAD programs are available at the SPENVIS website: http://www.spenvis.oma.be. [IMPORTANT: SPENVIS is a general spacecraft design utility, which incorporates many software tools. Please note that SPENVIS also includes the old CREME software (from 1986) but does not presently offer the CREME96 update which you are using here.]
