Optional TRP Input for FLUX

For orbits inside the magnetosphere, an optional input to FLUX is a trapped proton spectrum file from the TRP program module.

That is, if you wish, you may combine orbit-averaged spectra of trapped protons and non-trapped particles into a single .flx output file.

  • In order to activate this option, check the box (at the left of this line on the FLUX input page) and select the name of the .trp file from the pull-down menu.
  • Note that TRP must have been run to create the .trp file before you run FLUX.

Alternatively, you can calculate trapped proton effects separately, by using the trapped proton output files (.tr*) as inputs to the TRANS routines, etc.

IMPORTANT LIMITATIONS:

  • FLUX will only accept here orbit-averaged trapped proton files (_ave.tr*). Flux will not allow you to input here a trapped proton peak flux file, since the geomagnetic transmission makes an orbit-averaged calculation. Instead, trapped proton peak flux files should be directly input to TRANS, etc.
  • FLUX will also not allow you to combine a solar particle ("flare") model (a transient feature of the environment) with a trapped proton flux (a persistent feature of the environment). FLUX will only allow you to add the orbit-averaged trapped proton flux to a solar-quiet "non-flare" models.
